"Georgia
Department of Education's Low-Cost Technology Solution for
Georgia Schools"
|
Why
should the ETCs be allowed to charge a low-cost fee for
their training and consulting services to Georgia
schools? |
-
Schools depend heavily on the expertise of the ETCs.
The ETCs provide schools with low-cost
technology solutions. Without the ETCs, schools are
at the mercy of HIGH-COST vendors who only
wish to make a profit and who do not share or value
the educational mission of DOE. As educational
technology leaders, the
ETCs are in a position to facilitate the deployment
of new initiatives and to support systems in their
efforts to meet state-wide goals. Without
collecting low-cost fees from the systems,
the ETCs are unable to remain on the cutting edge of
knowledge, information, and skills requested by the
schools and systems.
-
Schools trust the ETCs and know that the technology
solutions offered are supported by DOE. (Ex: What if
school systems would have looked to the ETCs for an
SIS recommendation...The ETCs could have researched
the available SIS systems, consulted with DOE to
determine data requirements and recommended one
solution for the entire state of Georgia...)
-
State
Board rules are very strict concerning software
donations by vendors. More and more, the ETCs may
have to purchase software rather than depending on
the "goodwill" of vendors.
