eMath
eMath is a state initiative funded through competitive Title II, Part D grants to school districts. The grant is designed to address three statewide needs:
- Increasing students' mathematics achievement.
- Improve classroom access to modern learning technologies.
- Enhance educators' understanding of the types of scientifically-based research and evaluated encouraged by NCLB.
In experimental grant classrooms, teachers will be expected to engage students in solving meaningful, relevant problems that encourage deep mathematical thinking and communication and to frequently assess students' progress toward meeting mathematics standards (Georgia Performance Standards). To support this instructional change, specific, state-sponsored professional development programs will be required for local grant leadership teams and teachers. The primary purposes of these professional development programs will be to:
- Deepen educators' content knowledge of upper elementary mathematics skills and concepts as represented by the Georgia Performance Standards.
- Enhance educators' skills in supporting and delivery the types of instruction most likely to help students reach high levels of student achievement in mathematics.
- Improve educators' technology literacy skills for the purposes of supporting and delivering high-quality mathematics instruction.
The Macon State College ETC has seven school systems participating in this initiative: Baldwin, Clayton, Johnson, Turner, Upson, and Wilkinson. The professional development face-to-face sessions for the MSC ETC districts are:
