What is Capitol Tech?
Capitol Tech spotlights students using the fundamental technology tools necessary to succeed in the 21st century. "Today's education system faces irrelevance unless we bridge the gap between how students live and how they learn, according to the Learning for the 21st Century report. Students and teachers are eager for their local legislators to see firsthand how these tools are helping to increase student achievement and build community partnerships.

Capitol Tech is a collaborative effort between Georgia's K-12 schools and the Educational Technology Centers (ETC).  Annually, school teams visit the State Capitol to share their innovative projects with Georgia legislators. Students are the presenters sharing their educational projects student-designed Web sites that help other students resolve curricular issues, multimedia projects that demonstrate an understanding of curricular areas, and projects in which students collaborate with teachers to produce lessons that effectively infuse technology into the teaching and learning process.

I want my school to participate in Capitol Tech, what should I do?
Our Capitol Tech School representatives are selected from our Spotlight on Technology Innovative School Award recipients.  ETCs collaborate with their local school systems to provide high quality service, consulting, and professional learning for Georgia's pre-service and in-service educators to advance the effective use of technology for teaching, learning, and leading.  Throughout the year, we are exposed to exemplary and innovative ways local educators are using technology. The Spotlight on Technology Innovative School Award allows us to recognize these schools that are using innovative technologies and spotlight their success.

In order to be considered, fill out a Spotlight on Technology Innovative School application and submit it to your local ETC. Once your application is reviewed you will be contacted about your status.

When is Capitol Tech?
The 4th Annual Capitol Tech was Wednesday, February 6, 2008. The event was a big success, and the schools that participated felt that it was a worthwhile and rewarding experience. The 5th Annual Capitol Tech has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, 2009.

Here is the letter Georgia's Lieutenant Governor, Casey Cagle, sent to our director, Dr. Jeff Stewart, expressing his support for Capitol Tech. We are proud to be a part of this exciting initiative.
